Knowledge of welded pipe

Welded steel pipe is also called welded pipe and it is steel pipe after curling and welding of steel plate or steel strip. The production technology of welded steel pipe is simple and it has high production efficiency and various specifications. The investment to equipment is small but the strength is lower than that of seamless steel pipe.

Classification

Welded steel pipe can divided into the furnace pipe, welding (ERW) pipe and automatic arc welding pipe because of the difference of welding technologies. Because of the different forms of welding, it is divided into straight seam welded pipe and spiral welded pipe. And it is also divided into circular welded pipe and profiled (square, flat) welded pipe because of the ending shapes. Welded pipe can be divided into the following categories according to the different material and applications:

GB/T3091-1993 (galvanized welded steel pipe for delivering low pressure fluid). It is mainly used for the conveying of generally low pressure flow, such as water, gas, air, oil and heating hot water or steam and other purposes. The representative material is Q235 grade steel.

GB/T14291-1992 (welded steel pipe for delivering fluid in mine industry). It is mainly used in straight seam welded steel pipe, such as mine air pressure, drainage and shaft gas. The representative material is Q235A, B grade steel.

GB/T14980-1994 (welded steel pipe with a large diameter for the delivering of low pressure fluid). It is mainly used for conveying low-pressure fluid, such as water, sewage, gas, air and steam heating and other purposes. The representative material is Q235 grade steel.

GB/T12770-1991 (welded stainless steel pipe for mechanical structure). It is mainly used in machinery, automobile, bicycle, hotels, hotel furniture, decoration and other mechanical components and structural parts. The representative materials are 0Cr13, 1Cr17, 00Cr19Ni11, 1Cr18Ni9, 0Cr18Ni11Nb etc...

GB/T12771-1991 (welded stainless steel pipes for delivering liquid). It is mainly used to transport corrosive medium voltage. The representative materials are 0Cr13, 0Cr19Ni9, 00Cr19Ni11, 00Cr17, 0Cr18Ni11Nb, 0017Cr17Ni14Mo2 etc...

Welded stainless steel pipe for decoration (GB/T 18705-2002), welded stainless steel pipe for architectural decoration (JG/T 3030-1995), welded steel pipe with large diameter for delivering low pressure fluid (GB/T 3091-2001) and heat exchanger welded steel pipe (YB4103-2000).

Straight seam welded pipe has simple production technology and high production efficiency. It is of low cost and develops rapidly. Generally spiral welded pipe’s strength is higher than the straight seam welded pipe. People can use a narrow billet produce welded pipe with large diameter and also can use the same width of the billet produce welded pipe with different diameter. But compared with straight seam pipe with same length, welded pipe’s length increase 30~100% and the production rates are lower. Therefore, most of the welded pipe with smaller diameter use straight seam welding and welded pipe with large diameter mostly uses spiral welding.

So, smaller diameter pipe adopts welded and large diameter pipe mostly using spiral welded.

Supplement: welded pipe is made of steel welding, angle steel so its original position is not higher than seamless pipe.

Supplement of the classification of welded pipe:

1.Ordinary carbon steel wire casing (GB3640-88) is a pipe for protecting wire in industrial and civil buildings, the installation of machinery and equipment and electrical installation engineering.

2.Straight seam welded steel pipe (YB242-63) is a pipe whose welded line is longitudinal parallel with steel pipe. Usually it is divided into metric welding steel pipe, welded thin-wall pipe, transformer cooling pipe etc.

3.Spiral submerged arc welded pipe for conveying pressurized fluid (SY5036-83) in hot strip rolling for tube, often warm spiral forming, welding using double-sided submerged arc welding method, used for spiral bearing fluid conveying pipe joints. Steel pipe pressure ability, good welding performance, through a variety of strict scientific inspection and test, the use of safe and reliable. Steel pipe diameter is big, high transmission efficiency, and can save the investment of the laying of pipelines. Pipeline is mainly used to transport oil, natural gas.

4.Seam high frequency welding steel tube with spiral conveying pressurized fluid (SY5038-83) in hot strip rolling for tube, often warm spiral forming, welding lap welding method, used for pressure liquid transportation spiral seam high frequency welding steel tube. Steel pipe, strong bearing capacity, good plasticity, easy processing and welding molding; through a variety of strict and scientific examination and testing, the use of safe and reliable, large diameter steel pipe, high transmission efficiency, and can save the investment of the laying of pipelines. Mainly used for lying of pipelines transporting oil, natural gas, etc.

5.For spiral submerged arc welded pipe conveying general low-pressure fluid (SY5037-83) in hot strip rolling for tube, often warm spiral shape, with double-sided automatic submerged arc welding or welding method for welding steel pipe made of water, gas, air and steam etc generally low voltage liquid transportation.

6.Seam high frequency welding steel tube with spiral conveying general low-pressure fluid (SY5039-83) in hot strip rolling for tube, which often warm spiral forming, welding seam welded steel pipe for high frequency spiral conveying general low-pressure fluid with high frequency welding method.

7.With spiral weld steel pipe pile (SY5040-83) is the hot rolled strip coil for tube, which often warm spiral shape, with double-sided submerged arc welding or made of high frequency welding and it is used in civil engineering structure, pier and bridge pile foundation.
